I'm
Not Happy This is a cool record. It's L/H's first work in
digital format. We recorded it on adats, that's
cheap digital. There was no money and we had no experience
in the format, but we were game. The songs were written
thru '93. These were really dark times for L/H. Hard rock
was out of fashion and L.A. rock in particular was passe.
We rented minimal gear and recorded for about 6 weeks in
the beginning of '94. The sound was horrible compounded
with weak performances; we were bummin'. We decided to start
over. Our time was not wasted, in those 6 weeks we learned
how to record in digital, the arrangements came togetherand
we fought hard to make the record come alive. "I'm
not Happy" sums up how I felt during that period.
We
recorded for another 6 weeks, the art was ready, the finished
record was turned in at a cost of about
10 grand and lots of free labor. After shopping and being
rejected by everybody, Mayhem came to the plate
and picked up the record worldwide. We sold around 30,000.
10,000 in the States,20.000 in Europe. L/H did approx. 100
dates in support of the record. At the time, we were good
live. We were trying to prove that we were legitimate I
think we were. I heard the intro of Superfragilistic last
week on the Howard Stern show; I was drivin' down the street
and I thought, this sounds familiar, hey wait a minute that's
L/H.
